Construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Washington, Lincoln, and All America City Boulevard is estimated to last from August 2022 through 2024.
Improvements also include:
- A multi-use path,
- New crosswalks,
- Enhanced safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians,
- Landscaping, and
- Improved roadway aesthetics.
Why a roundabout?
This intersection change is a required environmental mitigation measure following @the Grounds (formerly known as the Placer County Fairgrounds) expansion. Additionally, it will optimize traffic flow in and out of the facility.
A roundabout is an efficient way of improving traffic flow and reducing speeds as vehicles enter the Historic Old Town and Downtown Roseville neighborhoods. When compared to other types of intersections, data shows significantly lower collision and injury rates.
Improvements will result in another distinctive entry point into Historic Old Town and Downtown Roseville.
Safety data
More than 90% reduction in fatal intersection accidents
80% reduction in injury collisions
40% reduction in pedestrian collisions

Phase 1 of the
Washington Boulevard/Andora Widening Project upgrades were completed just north of the project and help improve bike, pedestrian, and public transit access through this corridor. Phase 2 will widen Washington Boulevard from two to four lanes, between Kaseberg Drive and Diamond Oaks Road, and replace the current Union Pacific Railroad Andora bridge with a new wider bridge. Additional funding is needed for Phase 2, which is not yet scheduled.
Construction is anticipated through summer 2024.
Working hours are anticipated for 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekdays. Some weekend work is possible. Keep an eye on digital message boards for current working hours and construction information.
Stay alert and travel with care in the work zone.
Washington will remain open during construction. Watch for intermittent shoulder and lane closures. Be prepared for possible delays.
Please note the schedule is subject to change due to equipment, materials, weather, and other unexpected conditions.
> Reduce your speed when approaching
> Be aware and yield to any pedestrians in crosswalks
> If necessary, stop and wait for a gap in circulating traffic before entering
> Vehicles already inside the roundabout have the right-of-way
> Pedestrians: Watch and listen for approaching vehicles. Use the crosswalk when it's safe to do so.
> Bicyclists: Take the lane and circulate as a driver would in a vehicle. Use hand signals to show your intention. Never ride in the opposite direction of traffic. If you don't feel comfortable in the roadway, dismount and walk your bike using pedestrian walkways.
The estimated construction cost is $4.4 million, paid for by federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) and state Transportation Development Act (TDA) funding.
